The Bristol Warren Education Foundation (BWEF) awarded $50,408 in funding for the 2013-14 school year. The funds support 25 grants that impact students in each of the Bristol Warren Regional School District's schools. BWEF is proud to support these innovative programs.

Home Based Math Games – BWEF funds at-home math games, available to all second-grade students.
Welcome to Second Grade - BWEF funds the purchase of a grade level appropriate book for every incoming second-grade student.
Kindergarten Welcoming Kit – BWEF funds materials for a letter written by a previous year kindergartener welcoming new students to kindergarten, included with a grade level appropriate book.
Guiteras
Student Response System - BWEF funds a student response system that works in conjunction with already installed computers and Smart Boards. Students will use an individual remote to answer questions displayed on a Smart Board. Cartographers at Guiteras - The goal of this project is to expose students to the fine art of mapmaking by professional cartographer Jason Newton.
Creative Movement Residency - BWEF funds The Island Moving Co. visits to teach grades K through 5 Creative Movement classes during normally scheduled PE & Health class times.
“The Dragon King” Performance - BWEF funds a live performance of “The Dragon King” which brings folklore to students in a whole new format. A marionette performance is an opportunity that most of our students do not have access to – outside of school or inside school.
Adding POW Science to GAP - This project is compelling because it adds a hands-on, content rich element to science in the extended day setting. POW! Science! believes in students learning by doing.
Worm Watchers - BWEF funds the “WormWatcher” kit – a hands-on, inquiry-based teaching tool that is an indoor, year-round, vermicomposting system specially designed for elementary education.

Hugh Cole School
Physics of Making Music - BWEF funds the Rhode Island Philharmonic program “Physics of Music Making” which dovetails with the third grade art and music curriculum. Bill Calhoun from the Philharmonic reinforces the same concepts they have learned in art and music. The presentation allows the students to use music, art, science, and mathematic vocabulary in an authentic setting.
Colonial Days Project - The goal of the project is to expose 5th grade students to a hands on projects relating to the colonial time period. The day serves as an activator for the social studies unit on colonial times as well as the Revolutionary Period.
Touch Literacy on the Go (Ipads for reading) - Through the use of iPads funded by BWEF, this program will incorporate technology-based literacy learning opportunities to meet the individual needs of students who don't always have access to this type of technology at home.
Science Fair - This program not only exposes students to science and the scientific method, but the skills required extend to all areas of study from reading and writing to computer science and the scientific method.

Rockwell
Science Co-Lab with Audubon – Second-grade students will participate in five (one hour) hands on science lessons in the classroom provided by the Audubon Society of Rhode Island.
Performing Arts Integration with Trinity Rep - Using materials provided by Trinity Repertory Theater Company, students engage in investigating dramatic enactments using dialogue from “A Christmas Carol.” After extensive, integrated classroom activities, students travel to Trinity Rep to view a live performance.
Storyteller – BWEF funds this program designed to promote the awareness, appreciation, and application of Black Storytelling in Rhode Island through performance, educational and cultural experiences.
e-Readers for Literacy - BWEF funds Kindle Fire e-readers that will be used to increase student achievement, including, but not limited to, reading instruction. The e-readers will be used to improve students' ability to analyze and interpret text, a practice important to reading instruction.
Art Docent Program - The art docent program uses works of art to promote interdisciplinary and multicultural connections through direct experiences in creative expression. Parents and members of the community bring their unique expertise and vision to this art appreciation experience.
Spanish Language Enrichment - This Spanish Language Enrichment Program provides opportunities in grade 1 - 5 that engage students in reaching higher levels of social, emotional, and academic achievement.

Beginning Band Project - BWEF funds the Beginning Band Project which provides students with small group instruction by professional musicians at the very beginning of the school year to ensure each and every student has the resources needed to succeed.
Nature's Classroom - BWEF funds Nature's Classroom which creates an extraordinary opportunity for students to learn in a way that cannot be duplicated in a classroom. Over a five-day period of time students engage in activities that promote learning about science and nature, teamwork and self-awareness.
iPad Lab (science classroom) - BWEF funds this cutting-edge iPad Lab that will provide students with the tools and skills they need for success in a global environment while helping KMS to reduce its carbon footprint.
Mt. Hope HS
Community String Project - Community String Project (CSP) provides instruction on stringed instruments for East Bay students (predominantly from Bristol and Warren), filling a gap in the music instruction currently offered by area schools.
Healthy Relationships, Healthy Self – This project is designed to provide at-risk students an opportunity to develop healthy relationships, empower themselves, increase self esteem and connect with a caring adult.
